How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi

You can get to Batumi from Tbilisi by car, minibus, bus or train. The distance between Tbilisi and Batumi is 375 kilometres, so it will take around 6 – 7 hours to get to Batumi by car. Road conditions depend on weather conditions, traffic and road works. Often, livestock is roaming around the highways. Therefore, the most convenient way to get from Tbilisi to Batumi is by train.

Tickets can be purchased on the Georgian Railways website (registration is required) or at the railway station (Station Square metro). You can also check the schedule on their website.

802/801 Train departs Tbilisi at 8 am and arrives in Batumi at 13:35
It leaves Batumi at 15:00 and arrives in Tbilisi at 20:30

Flight 804/803 departs Tbilisi at 15:05 and arrives in Batumi at 20:41
It leaves Batumi at 8:30 and arrives in Tbilisi at 14:30

First class train ticket price is 61 GEL (for November 2020, one way) and 25 GEL for the Second Class (one way) ticket.

While using an app to buy a train ticket, you can select seats on the train. From Tbilisi, you can get by train to Batumi, Poti, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Borjomi and Gori.

Tickets for a minibus or bus can be purchased directly upon boarding a minibus/bus. Just like trains, buses and minibuses (marshrutka) leave from Station Square metro station. Tickets cost 25 GEL.

    1. As of now, you can purchase a ticket for dates from 24 December to January 3rd. However, it is not yet definitely clear, will the trains resume running or not.
